As Carden Academy students continue their education through the Intermediate years of 4th and 5th grades, they solidify the basics learned in their early school years. In 4th grade math, they begin the study of advanced concepts including geometry, fractions, and decimals and continue with metrics and word problems. In language arts, students build on their study of grammar and literature, once again with an emphasis on the classics. They are introduced to sentence patterns, outlines and composition. In science, emphasis is placed on the physical, earth and life sciences, including the study of the properties of matter, magnetism and electricity, weather and climate, and the human body.

Fifth grade is a pivotal year – children at this age are growing and maturing dramatically, torn between being completely dependent and being young adults ready to assume added responsibility. At Carden Academy, 5th grade students are given increased responsibility for projects, including several major reports, and for their actions. In a warm and caring environment they are encouraged and challenged to achieve their potential, which only they can determine.
